Women finish in tie for second at Ihlanfeldt

The No. 2 UW women's golf team ascended up the leader board yesterday to finish second in the final round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. Washington came into the final day sitting in sixth place following two rounds. After carding the team's best round score of the tournament with 301, UW was able to tie with Oregon for second at 54-over par. This is the third time in four tournaments the Huskies have climbed four or more spots in the final round, including moving from 14th to sixth in last year's NCAA Championships. "That is a trend you want to have continue," Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur said. "It says a lot about your team, and I always know that they're giving 100 percent whether things are going their way or not." The UW finished 19 strokes off of tournament winner No. 9 Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls shot a 302 for the day and posted a team score of 899 for all three rounds. They finished at 35-over par for the tournament. Junior Paige MacKenzie paced the Huskies yesterday, carding her best round of the tournament with a 73-stroke performance, putting her at 14-over for the three days and tied with her sophomore teammate Amber Prange for 15th. Freshman Kim Shin led Washington all three days, finishing in sixth place at 9-over par. "They fought hard after having a pretty disappointing first two days," said Mulflur of her team's performance yesterday. "I was really proud of the way they played today." Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin won the individual title, leading all three days. She carded a 70 yesterday to put her at 3-over par for the event. The Huskies next event is in the Stanford Collegiate in Palo Alto Oct. 15.
