Volleyball moves to Final Four

After winning its two matches this weekend, the Washington women's volleyball squad is headed to play in the Final Four for the first time in program history. The Huskies faced UCLA in the Elite Eight last Saturday, just barely pulling out the win, three games to two. With the match tied up at two games a piece, the Bruins took an early 8-6 lead in game five before a 9-1 run by the UW won the game and the match. Game scores were 27-30, 30-19, 30-28, 24-30, 15-9. Washington had two players with over 20 kills. Senior Sanja Tomasevic had 24 en route to being named the West Regionals Most Valuable Player. Junior Brie Hagerty added 23 kills of her own, including five in the deciding game. Candace Lee anchored a strong defensive effort with a career-high 40 digs on the night. The Huskies will face the No. 11 seed Stanford on Thursday in the Final Four. They split the two matches they played earlier in the season. If they get that far, Washington will face either USC or Minnesota in the championship game.
