In the first road game of the season for the No. 7 Washington men’s soccer team, there were plenty of chances for the Huskies to score. However, the night ended in a 0-0 draw with Pennsylvania, pulling the UW’s record to 2-0-1 on the season.
Once again, the UW showed its depth using six substitutes in tonight’s matchup. After sitting out the first two games with a leg injury, junior forward Mason Robertson, one of the team’s two leading returning scorers from 2014, was back on the pitch.
With 24 shots on the night for the Huskies, eight on goal, quite a few players had an opportunity to put one in the back of the net. As two of seven players with shots on goal tonight for the Huskies, both Robertson and freshman defender Quentin Pearson had close calls just before heading into overtime.
After regulation, the Huskies outshot the Quakers 19-2 and had Pennsylvania senior goalkeeper Max Polkinhorne on his toes with seven saves. The UW offense kept pressure at the opposing end of the field, earning 13 corner kicks to Pennsylvania’s seven.
On the defensive side of the ball, now with three games and three shutouts for the season, redshirt senior goalkeeper Ryan Herman earned the 11th shutout of his career.
The UW will finish their road trip on Monday in Philadelphia for a 4 p.m. matchup against Drexel.
