The Washington volleyball team continues road action today, facing Washington State in Pullman at 7 p.m.
The No. 1 Huskies (19-0 overall, 11-0 Pac-10) look to continue their season-long winning streak after defeating both Oregon State and Oregon. The Beavers pushed the UW to five games before falling 3-2 last Thursday. Washington blanked the Ducks 3-0 last Friday.
This season has been much different for the two Washington state teams. The Huskies are undefeated and the top team in the nation for the fourth straight week. The Cougars (4-20, 1-10), meanwhile, are currently tied with OSU for last place in the Pac-10, winning for the first time in their last 13 games just last Thursday against Oregon.
In the all-time series, the Huskies lead the Cougars 46-21, including a 3-0 win Oct. 18 in Seattle.
Washington will send out a tough defense anchored by junior libero Candace Lee. Lee totaled 67 digs last weekend against the Oregon schools, putting her season average at 5.6 per game. Junior Danka Danicic is second with 2.94 digs per game (dpg). The UW is holding opponents to a Pac-10 best .136 hitting average this season. Junior Darla Myre is fourth in the conference in blocks per game with 1.38.
On the offensive side, the Huskies send two players to the court averaging more than four kills per game this season. Freshman Christal Morrison leads the team with 4.32 kills per game (kpg), while junior Brie Hagerty is not far behind putting up 4.10 kpg. Sophomore Courtney Thompson is the team's assist leader at 14.86 per game.
Washington State is hitting .168 as a team, with Kelly Rosin and Jennifer Todd leading as the Cougars two heavy hitters. Rosin leads the squad with 3.83 kpg, with Todd at 3.70. Nicole Martin is the team leader in assists with 10.84 assists per game.
WSU's defense is last in the Pac-10 in opponent hitting percentage, allowing opposing teams to hit .249 against them per game. Stacy Holbrook leads the Cougars with 3.69 dpg.
Washington's visit to Pullman is the end of the team's three-game road trip. The Huskies return to home action Nov. 11 when they face Arizona, followed by a Nov. 12 meeting with Arizona State.
