Fourth clean sheet and second road win brings Huskies back home

The Washington men's soccer team continued to show its defensive dominance Friday night, recording its second shutout of the weekend in a 1-0 victory over Drexel in Philadelphia. Showing their depth tonight both in goal and all across the field, the Huskies used 17 players against the Dragons. The backline for tonight’s game, comprised of redshirt junior Justin Schmidt, sophomore Justin Fiddes, redshirt freshman Luke Hauswirth, and freshman Quentin Pearson, all played for the entire 90 minutes and were the only ones to do so, with the exception of senior forward Josh Heard. Last weekend, head coach Jaime Clark noted the solidity of the defense, and with two more shutouts on the road this weekend, the backline showed their strength holds away from home. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Auden Schilder made his first career start tonight and walked away with two saves, continuing the clean sheet streak and bringing the Huskies’ tally up to four so far this season. Offensively, the UW outshot Drexel 15-11 in total, with eight on target, creating a number of chances up front. Senior midfielder James Moberg scored the lone goal off a penalty kick in the 38th minute to put the UW at 3-0-1 for the season. The goal was Moberg’s second of the season, making him the first UW player to score more than one goal this year, with his first coming from a penalty kick in the win against UC Davis. The Huskies return home to Seattle this week and host an exhibition match against the University of British Columbia on Friday at 7 p.m. at Husky Soccer Stadium.
