Film to end your week: ‘The Strangers,’ dir. Dennis Iliadis

While “Halloweek” can be a fun-filled frenzy of dressing up and going out, it can also be exhausting. By the time the end of the week hits, you’re ready for a night in with multiple bags of fun-sized candies, and a movie to make your bones shiver. Instead of opting for classics like “Halloween,” or “Friday The 13th,” try something a little different this year and go for one of the scariest movies currently on the market.

“The Strangers” plays upon the fear of being stalked, and falling prey to other humans. The premise of the film is a couple being terrorized in their remote cabin where they intended to vacation for the night.

The film becomes more terrifying when viewers learn that this terror is enacted by three masked, unidentified people. These masks are reminiscent of Halloween costumes a child might wear, such as a bunny mask.

The torture inflicted on the innocent couple by the masked characters commences as the sun rises, but the identities of the mask-wearers remain anonymous.

While it is not available to stream on Netflix, it is available to order on DVD and will be worth your time to rent on iTunes, or at a video store. It will keep you shrieking the entire time, and leave your mind fried at the end. Be warned: This film offers no relief for the viewer, making it a perfect Halloween horror film.
