The Washington women's golf team took a drastic fall down the leaderboard yesterday at the Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate Showdown in Henderson, Nev.
Heading into the second round in sole possession of first place 6-over 294, the Huskies hoped to cement their lead going into the final round tomorrow. However, a rocky day of competition caused them to drop down the standings.
The UW suffered through a 306 round to finish the day in fourth place at 24-over par, one stroke off third place Stanford.
Tournament host UNLV has taken over as the first place team after two days of competition. The Rebels shot 5-over 287 as a team to take a two-stroke lead over Texas Tech at 13-over 295.
Washington may not be out of the running for first just yet. In each of its last three events, the Huskies flourished in the final round including shooting the third-best round in school history with a 3-over 283 in the third round of their last competition -- the Stanford Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif.
Junior Sung Ea Lee led the way for the Huskies yesterday, carding a 2-over 74 to sit in a three-way tie for ninth place at 4-over 148. Freshman Kim Shin shot a round of 4-over 76 yesterday to put her in 15th place at 6-over 150.
There is a three-way tie for the individual first- place title. UNLV's Hwanhee Lee, Missouri's Maria Ohlsson and San Francisco's Jessica Potter all carded a 1-over par 145.
The final round takes place today with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
