Miles reinstated to team; Stringfellow transferring

Washington football head coach Chris Petersen announced Wednesday that sophomore quarterback Cyler Miles has been reinstated to the team. Petersen also said that wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow will transfer and tailback Ryan McDaniel has decided to retire due to ongoing knee issues. Miles and Stringfellow had been suspended from all team activities since they came under investigation for an alleged assault that occurred Feb. 2, the night the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl. Stringfellow was charged with three misdemeanors in relation to the case, while Miles was not charged. In 2013, Miles started one game under center for the Huskies but played in eight. He completed 37-of-61 passes for 418 yards, throwing four touchdowns and two interceptions. Prior to spring practice, Miles was expected to take over the role of starting quarterback with the graduation of Keith Price. Miles’ suspension and absence meant that Jeff Lindquist and Troy Williams shared reps during spring. According to court documents, Stringfellow and Miles, a Colorado native, were present during postgame celebrations taking place on 19th Avenue Northeast, and Stringfellow was shoving a Denver Broncos cap or beanie in the face of Seahawks fans. He fought with a man who tried to take the cap, an incident that was caught on camera by another UW student. Stringfellow then attempted to take the camera from the student, hitting her in the head in the process. The players left the scene as the student was taken inside of a nearby fraternity house and cared for, according to prosecutors. About an hour later, a man was walking his girlfriend home on Northeast 55th Street when they were approached by the football players. Stringfellow allegedly blocked the path of the man after learning he was a Seahawks fan. Stringfellow then pushed the man into a bush, and, after being pushed back, began hitting him. The receiver then chased the man down a path before hitting him again and leaving the scene. Neither the man nor his girlfriend could say whether Miles had struck the man during the incident. As a true freshman in 2013, Stringfellow caught 20 passes for 259 yards and a score. The 6-foot-3 native of Perris, Calif., was expected to take over a starting role in the offense next season. McDaniel, a sophomore from Torrance, Calif., played in one game for the UW last season, carrying the ball 10 times for 47 yards against Idaho State. He was a limited participant in spring practices this year. Reach Sports Editor Daniel Rubens at sports@dailyuw.com. Twitter: @drubens12
