Despite coming in as the No. 3 seed, the Washington women's golf team only mustered up a sixth place finish at the Pac-10 Championships.
The eighth-ranked Huskies shot 295 as a team on the final day of competition to finish 33-over par for the three-day tournament. The UW finished in sixth place a year ago at the same event.
"I'm disappointed," coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We didn't play very well at all, and I feel that we are a much better team than what we showed this week."
No. 2 UCLA was the wire-to-wire winner of the Pac-10 as it led at the close of all three days. The Bruins won, carding a 10-over-par with 874. Thanks to a one-over par day, Arizona State rose up the leader board to grab the second spot, finishing four strokes out of first.
Amber Prange continued her surprising play for Washington. The sophomore paced the Huskies in the tournament as she finished in a tie for ninth after a 1-under-par final round. She finished at 2-over par for the event.
"She really stepped up," Mulflur said. "To finish in the top 10 at this tournament is very impressive."
Paige Mackenzie finished one stroke off of Prange's team leading finish. The junior All-American carded a 3-over-par with 219 to tie for 11th.
The individual Pac-10 champion was Arizona State's Louis Stahle. The top-ranked golfer in the nation, Stahle used a 5-under-par performance yesterday to move up from fourth. She won the tournament with a three-day total of 9-under par.
Freshman Kim Shin used a 1-over-par performance yesterday to rise 13 spots to finish in 26th at 14-over par. Sophomore Courtney McCracken rounded out the score yesterday, finishing in 31st at 16-over par.
The Huskies take to the links again in the NCAA Regionals starting May 5.
