Tennis team ends season as doubles fall against familar foes

The season finished for the Washington men's tennis team as Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic fell in the NCAA Doubles Championships in College Station, Texas. The Husky pair made it to the round of 16, where they succombed to Stanford's KC Corkery and Sam Warburg in straight sets. It was the third time this season that Chu and Slovic were matched against the Stanford team. They lost to Corkery and Warburg in the Pac-10 championships on April 24. "The main thing for us was that we didn't take advantage of the points that we had set up well," coach Matt Anger said. "We didn't take advantage of the games that we had set ourselves up for. We missed between 15 and 20 errors on the net, and in the 19 games that were played, we had game point in 12 of them." Chu and Slovic led the first set 3-2 before Corkery and Warburg rallied to take the set 6-3. The Cardinal teammates won second set 6-4. "I think it was a pretty even match," Anger said. "We just were not capitalizing on good serves and points that we had set up." After Slovic's and Alex Vlaski's losses on the first day of the singles tournament, the doubles loss ended the season for the UW. "I feel that we were playing better at the end, so in that situation I wanted the season to get going," Anger said. "There are a lot of things that we need to do right away as I'm eager to get started on next year."
