The Washington men's tennis team looks to rebound against Idaho today at Bill Quillian Stadium after a disappointing trip to San Diego last weekend.
The No. 14 Huskies (10-3 overall) have beaten the Vandals (1-4) all but one time in their 53 total meetings. The UW is currently 4-0 against unranked opponents this season.
"We are looking forward to the match," coach Matt Anger said. "We haven't played them in a few years, so we don't know much about them."
In this week's ITA tennis rankings, senior Alex Vlaski jumped eight spots to a season-high No. 26. Sophomore Alex Slovic and senior Christoph Palmanshofer both saw their rankings fall. Slovic comes into the weekend at No. 28, while Palmanshofer took the biggest drop as his ranking went from No. 37 to No. 62.
Washington is not focused on rankings though, as they want to get back on track against Idaho after a disappointing loss to San Diego last Monday.
"Our reflexes and impulses on the court are not what they have been in practice," Anger said.
The Vandal's only win of the season so far was a 7-0 sweep of Division III Linfield Feb. 13th. Idaho currently has no ranked players, and their No. 1 singles player, Michael Suttner, is 1-4 in dual play so far this season.
In practice this week, the Huskies got back to the basics to prepare for Idaho.
"We are concentrating on the fundamentals; how to move, where to move, where to hit the ball, and where to be looking for the ball," Anger said. "We need to make sure that we're not breaking down with the fundamentals."
