UW in L.A. for Pac-10 showdown

The Washington men's tennis team serves against UCLA and USC this weekend in Los Angeles. "We are in for some good matches this weekend," coach Matt Anger said. "I think that we're doing better ourselves and I think that they'll be exciting." The 13th-ranked Huskies (14-3 overall, 2-0 Pac-10) will strive to keep their four-match winning streak alive as they hit the road for just the third time all season. After pulling out hard-fought victories over California and Stanford last weekend at home, Washington will try to keep on its winning path starting with its match against No. 6 UCLA (17-2, 2-0) today. The Bruins were the runner-up squad last season in the national title match, falling to Baylor. It is the only team in the nation to boast two players in the top 10. No. 7 Luben Pampoulov and No. 10 Benjamin Kohlloeffel are a strong duo at the top of the lineup. As a doubles pairing, they are ranked No. 59 in the nation and will most likely face the Washington team of Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic. "I'm really confidant in our guys," Anger said. "We can play well and hopefully it will be enough. Although, you never know how much enough is, as can be judged from last weekend." The Huskies will then take on No. 12 USC (10-8, 2-0) tomorrow. The Trojans currently lead the all-time series between the two teams at 20-1. "We've played against most of USC's guys," Anger said. He also noted, "they have a couple of new guys that we haven't played against yet." After starting 2-0 in Pac-10 play, the Huskies like their chances in the tough Pac-10 season. "The guys are pretty excited about [starting 2-0]," Anger said. "We have five more matches in the conference, and they want to keep adding to the win column as much as possible."
