UW men’s soccer ends regular season on a high note

After ending last year’s season as one of the leading goal-scorers for the Washington men’s soccer team, junior forward Mason Robertson found the back of the net for his first goal of the season Thursday afternoon to claim a 1-0 victory against Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore.

In their regular season finale, the Huskies (8-5-6, 4-3-3 Pac-12) dominated play, with plenty of chances on goal.

In the 38th minute, sophomore defender Justin Fiddes set up the goal in the box for Robertson to knock it into the back of the net.

Robertson and senior forward Josh Heard were the lead returning goal-scorers this year after scoring seven goals each last season, but Robertson has been battling injury for the majority of the year.

The Huskies outshot the Beavers (8-9-1, 3-6-1 Pac-12) 17-15 and had 10 corner kicks to Oregon State’s two.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Ryan Herman had seven saves on the night, earning his 10th shutout of the season, and the 11th for the UW.

The Huskies can now turn their attention to the NCAA tournament as selection will take place Monday, Nov. 16, and the first round of play will begin next Thursday.
