Brad Feagan, a member of the chain gang, is loaded onto an ambulance after being knocked down during Washington's 30-0 victory against Washington State Saturday at Husky Stadium.

UW pays tribute to police, military, fire-department personnel

The Washington football program is paying tribute to law-enforcement officers, military and fire-department personnel in the wake of Sunday morning's shooting that left four Lakewood police officers dead at an area coffee shop. UW head coach Steve Sarkisian announced at his Monday press conference that any of the above-mentioned personnel with proper identification will be being offered four complimentary tickets to UW's game against California on Saturday. "For what you do, we are very thankful for that, and it puts football into perspective of what it means: that we're all fortunate to live in this country and to be part of everything we're trying to get accomplished," Sarkisian said. "What you do is recognized. If any of you have the time to come, please join us. It will be a great opportunity for you and your families." Tickets can be claimed at the Husky ticket office Monday through Friday, or by calling the ticket office at 206-543-2200 for more information. CHAIN-GANG MEMBER HAS SURGERY Sarkisian identified the member of the chain gang who was taken off the field via ambulance during Saturday's game as Brad Feagan, who underwent neck surgery Sunday and is expected to recover. Sarkisian called the injury "serious," but said that he should be OK. Feagan was apparently knocked down on a play near the sidelines, and the injury occurred when his head snapped back against the ground. MORE NFL TALK The inevitable question of whether UW junior quarterback Jake Locker will be playing his final home game this week was raised. And as predictable as the question being asked was Sarkisian's response. "I don't know," Sarkisian said. "I really don't." Locker was equally mum. "No, I'm not worried about that," he said. It's worth wondering, though. Locker could easily make himself millions by declaring for the draft, but most would call his UW tenure a failure if he were to bolt without leading the Huskies to a winning season or a bowl game. And the Huskies would have some serious work to do next year, breaking in a new quarterback. "We've got to coach really well, get our guys ready," Sarkisian said. "We've got two scholarship quarterbacks outside of Jake on our roster: Ronnie Fouch and Keith Price. And we've got to recruit some young men here that can help build this program in the future." NOTES Senior linebacker E.J. Savannah won't play on Saturday. His broken hand hasn't healed enough. Sarkisian said that the paperwork has been filed to apply for a sixth-year for Savannah, who sat out all of last year for reasons that weren't made entirely apparent by then-head coach Tyrone Willingham. They're awaiting a decision. ... The only injury from the Apple Cup was to Victor Aiyewa, who got his "bell rung" on a kickoff return. He should be ready to go Saturday, Sarkisian said.
