Women's Golf returns to course for Spartan Invitational

The Washington women's golf team swings back into action today at the Spartan Invitational in Salina, Calif. This is the first tournament for the No. 4 Huskies since placing fifth at the Regional Challenge in Los Angeles Feb. 9. The UW is one of three Pac-10 squads making up the 15-team field. Also included are last year's champion No. 2 UCLA and No. 33 California. Tournament host San Jose State is ranked No. 47. In last year's competition, Washington took fourth place among the 17 participants, shooting a team score of 892, to finish 34 strokes off of the Bruins. The format for the event features 36 holes played today by each player, which will be followed up with 18 more tomorrow in the final round. Leading the way for the Huskies will be junior Paige MacKenzie. She comes into the event ranked No. 16. Also ranked in the top-25 is fellow junior Sung Ea Lee at No. 23. Lee finished fifth at the event last year when she carded an even-par 216. Rounding out the lineup for Washington will be freshman Kim Shin and sophomores Amy Wang and Amber Prange.
