Women's golf second after two rounds in San Jose

The Washington women's golf team came out strong in the first and second rounds yesterday to stand in second place at the Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif. The No. 4 Huskies trail No. 2 UCLA by one stroke after the UW shot a 12-over par with 580 in the two rounds. Junior Paige Mackenzie led the Huskies as she carded a 3-under par with 68 in the second round to put her in a second place tie at even par 142. She trails tournament leader Sofie Andersson of California by seven strokes. In the first round, Washington shot a team score of 293 to put them in second, one stroke behind UNLV. However, UCLA shot a 281 in the second round to take the tournament lead. The Huskies shot just 3-over in the second round to remain in second place. Freshman Kim Shin led the UW in first round play as she shot an even par 71 in the first half of the day. She sits in sixth place at 2-over par with144. Junior Sung Ea Lee and sophomore Amber Prange are deadlocked for 15th at 147. Sophomore Amy Wang rounds out the scoring for the Huskies as she carded a 156 to place 51st. Washington will compete in the final round today at 8 a.m.
