The Washington women's golf team heads south this weekend to take part in the PING/ASU Invitational.
The eighth-ranked Huskies will be one of 17 teams participating in the tournament that takes place at Karasten Course in Tempe, Ariz. It is their first event of spring quarter, coming off of a seventh-place finish in their last competition.
Once again, the UW will participate in a tournament with No. 2 UCLA headlining as the highest-ranked squad in the field. No. 5 Pepperdine and host No. 7 Arizona State are the only other teams in the top 10 at the event.
All nine members of the Pac-10 will be participating in the tournament.
"It's a pretty straightforward course, nothing too intimidating about it," coach Mary Lou Mulflur said. "We have played good and bad there, but I think that this is the best team that we have brought down here in the last few years."
Last season, Washington placed ninth while junior Paige MacKenzie took fourth.
"We're looking forward to having a good weekend," Mulflur said. "We are not really concerned who is at the course; that is out of our control. We just need to take care of our own business and play our own game."
The Huskies currently have two players ranked in the top 50. MacKenzie is the highest, coming in at No. 32. Freshman Kim Shin ranks 41st.
Junior Sung Ea Lee ranks just outside of the top 50 as the 59th-ranked player in the country.
Sophomores Amber Prange and Ashley Bickerton will round out the lineup for the Huskies this weekend.
