With 10 seconds remaining, the Washington women’s basketball team needed a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime. The Huskies (7-23, 1-17 Pac-12) got the ball in Amber Melgoza’s hands.

The Washington women’s basketball team is scheduled to play California at 2 p.m. Thursday for the opening round of the Pac-12 tournament. All tournament games will be played at Key Arena.

This season, Amber Melgoza simply found a way to score.

As the last person introduced in the starting line-up, senior guard Jenna Moser came out wearing the No. 20 jersey of her fellow senior Kelli Kingma, who had retired due to injuries before the 2017-18 season.

For walk-on players, a coaching change can be worrisome. Senior guards Jenna Moser and Mackenzie Wieburg had played approximately 164 minutes combined across several seasons with the team, and there wasn’t a large amount of film or information on how they would fare in a more featured role.

The Washington women’s basketball team’s last game at Utah was an extreme microcosm of the season. Offensively, the Huskies sputtered throughout, shooting 26 percent from the field, their worst mark of the season.

When the Washington women’s basketball team wasn’t able to pressure Utah into mistakes, the game spiraled out of control.

For its final regular season roadtrip, the Washington women’s basketball team will be matched up again with Colorado and Utah. The games are Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., respectively.

Several weeks ago in Corvallis, Oregon, the Washington women’s basketball team battled out to a one-point lead after the first quarter. No. 16 Oregon State made sure that the outcome was not in doubt this time around.

Before the calendar turned to 2018, the Washington women’s basketball team went on the road and showed toughness and resolve in losses to Oregon State and Oregon.

Scrimmages before this season were a stark contrast to the ones from last year for sophomore guard Amber Melgoza. Now the Washington women’s basketball team was looking to her to be one of the primary scorers.

Head coach Jody Wynn and her husband, associated head coach Derek Wynn, have come to Washington after eight seasons at Long Beach State. They brought their two assistants, Paul Reed and former Washington captain Michelle Augustavo, as well as their two daughters, Jada and Kaeli.

The Washington women’s basketball team quickly built a double-digit lead early, but the Huskies (7-16, 1-11 Pac-12) couldn’t hold on to it.

The offense was just not there for the Washington women’s basketball team in Tempe, Arizona. In their 61-41 loss to Arizona State, the Huskies (7-15, 1-10 Pac-12) set a new season-low in points and made field goals (16).

The Washington women’s basketball team will fly out to play the two Arizona schools this weekend. Up first is a Friday matchup against No. 25 Arizona State at 7 p.m., followed by a Sunday game at 11 a.m. versus Arizona.

With the crowd at Alaska Airlines Arena coming to life, USC’s senior guard Sadie Edwards canned a three from the corner. As she jogged back on defense, she put her index finger to her lips, shushing the crowd.

It took eight games for the Washington women’s basketball team to put it all together for their first Pac-12 win. The Huskies (7-12, 1-7 Pac-12) are hoping the second will not take as long to attain, but face a challenge in No. 13 UCLA and USC.

Soon after Jody Wynn was named the Washington women’s basketball head coach, she made phone calls to a few of the high school seniors she had recruited to play at Long Beach State.

The relief and excitement was evident as the eight remaining healthy players on the Washington women’s basketball team and their coaches jumped and hugged when the final buzzer sounded.
